Following a request from the 29 Commando Regiment Telemark Ski Team, the ALF are proud to have supplied them with thermal base layers and fleeces to protect them from the -15degC conditions they have recently been competing in.
The team of 4 took part in the British Army Telemark Championships in the French Alps and performed extremely well against some experienced and stiff competition:
- Captain O’Neill selected for the Army Telemark Team.
- Captain Gorman given the Tom Sawyer Award for Best Telemark Novice.
- Third place in the Team Mountain Race.
- Captain Parkin (Team Leader) placed second in the Development Race.
- Staff Sergeant Yates selected for the Royal Artillery Telemark Committee.
The free-heel skiing style originated in the Telemark Region of Norway in the 1860s and was the foundation of modern downhill skiing. With the requirement to move tactically over snow, the technique has long ties with military units and explorers operating in the polar regions, and Commando Forces are still introduced to (and expected to master) the discipline as part of their winter warfare training today.
Huge congratulations to the Team from us along with our thanks for seeking our support.
