Following a request for support from a former beneficiary in Southend, Barry Lewis very kindly visited the family to ascertain the issue and see where the ALF could help. The ALF previously supplied an over-bed hoist to help with safe transfers for teenager Jayden but, due to his worsening mobility issues, the family had been forced to move to a more appropriate property but were finding access to his new bedroom with a wheelchair was a problem. They had approached the local authority for help with internal adaptations but were on a very long waiting list.
Barry commissioned a local builder to plan the work in consultation with the local health specialists, then assisted with and oversaw its completion which included widening the bedroom threshold, fitting a space saving roller door and modifying parts of the stairs to create more room in the hall for manoeuvring and safety.
Jayden’s mum Diane very kindly wrote to Barry and Helen on completion and stated ‘This has made a huge difference for access. I really cannot thank you guys enough. From a very grateful Nash family.’
