Guiness World Record holder gets new wheels

Double Guiness World Record holder and veteran Lexi, from Exeter, has been given an added boost for her next World Record attempt with ALF funding towards a specialised wheelchair.

Lexi, who also received a lifechanging hand bike from the ALF in 2020 for her journey back to fitness following leg amputation, is attempting to break the non-adapted wheelchair distance record in 12 hours at Exeter Stadium on 21 August 2023.

The chair Lexi has been using for her training and World Record events thus far was too big for her and was causing health issues, so this chair has been built to fit her specifically.

Lexi, who also contributed to the cost of the chair, has named it ‘Garcia’ after her favourite female rugby player, former Exeter Chiefs player, Patricia Garcia. Lexi stated in a thank you note to the ALF “the chair is super-fast and super awesome just like Patricia Garcia. It’s so light and the right size for
me. My back doesn’t hurt anymore and my shoulders are better – thank you so much.”
