As a result of work between the ALF, Help for Heroes, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, Blesma The Limbless Veterans and The Parachute Regiment Charity, a paralysed former Parachute Regiment soldier in Portsmouth is about to receive an electric powered wheelchair to enable him to regain his mobility and freedom.
This hugely worthwhile collaboration came about following an ALF offer of support to Blesma. ALF Trustee Steve Fraser worked closely with the Blesma South Area Support Officer Bill Gillett and Help for Heroes Grants Officer Annette Fuller, to confirm the recipient’s eligibility for charitable support and to tie down the specific requirements and costs of the appropriate electric powered vehicle.
Due to the complexity of the need, the project has taken over 6 months to deliver, but the outcome and gratitude of the recipient and his family has been quite humbling. It is hoped that we will be able to follow up with photos and an update on his progress in the coming weeks.
