The ALF has played a small part in helping to fund a team of 7 from Aaron’s former Regiment to complete a gruelling 400km cycle trek through the Khangai Mountains of Mongolia.
The team, led by Captain Chris Grant, aimed to cycle 50km per day in weather that varied wildly from glorious sunshine, freezing rain, snow and almost gale force winds with a temperature variance of over 30ºC. It proved to be a much stiffer challenge than anticipated, with the altitude (at an average of over 2000m ASL), very heavy bikes and the afore-mentioned weather combining to test even the strongest riders.
In writing to the Trustees after the event, Chris kindly stated: ‘This was a genuinely unforgettable expedition and an outstanding example of the value of Adventure Training. It combined physical challenge, cultural insight, personal development and a real sense of achievement in one of the most impressive landscapes I have ever visited. I am extremely grateful to….the charity whose support helped make the expedition possible; without that backing, opportunities of this quality, reach and impact would be far harder, if not impossible, to deliver.
