The ALF is very proud to have played a small part in the silver medal gained at the 2025 Invictus Games in Canada by one of the Team GB wheelchair rugby players.

Injured RAF veteran Joanne, from Cornwall, was referred to the ALF by wheelchair rugby playing beneficiary Gordon who plays alongside her at the Celtic Warriors.

With the clock counting down, Joanne and the ALF team worked with the supplier quickly to ensure her chair was delivered in time for the landmark event.
Prior to her journey out to Canada, Joanne spoke to ALF Trustee Steve Fraser following a fitting visit to Roma Medical in Wales to confirm “I've seen my new wheelchair rugby chair, it's perfect and I'm over the moon with it. I can hopefully manage to get a training session in [in it] before the Invictus games.”

She went on to say “I’m extremely grateful to have the support which will allow me to have my own chair and return the loan chair I've been using. I fully intend to make sure it’s used well, hopefully it will make its appearance at the games.” It certainly did and she was thrilled to be able to report that “It [Invictus] was a great experience…the chair has made such a difference to my game.”

Due to the unique design, strength requirements and lightweight materials, rugby wheelchairs are expensive items, so it was fabulous that the ALF had the funds from its generous supporters to make this happen for Joanne and Team GB!
