After months of effort by ALF volunteers, the recipient’s family and clinical advisors, we are delighted to report that a severely disabled lady in Southend is now much safer while being transferred when she is away from the home.
Abbey, who we had the privilege of giving a specialised walker to in December 2023, relies on a hoist and bespoke glove sling to be transferred from activity to activity. She has one hoist that was supplied by the NHS, but this is too cumbersome to take out of the house for stays away where she must be lifted and carried manually by family members. Abbey’s Mum Sam contacted the ALF again and asked if this was something we could help with. After speaking to Abbey’s Occupational Therapist for her endorsement and to get information on the correct model to buy, it was finally delivered and set up by the supplier this week.
In the words of Abbey’s Mum on Monday; ‘Got it thank you so much. Sooooo happy’ – what more can we say apart from thank you to everyone who supports us and made this simple but life changing outcome possible.
