The ALF and Blesma helps former Royal Navy veteran to get mobile again

The ALF is pleased to finally be able to announce details of a 2nd Extreme X8 powered all terrain wheelchair that it has helped to purchase for former Royal Navy veteran Darran in Torquay. In addition to a personal contribution from Darran, the veteran’s charity Blesma also provided funding to enable this life changing outcome.

Darran suffers from a very rare, service-related medical condition that makes walking extremely dangerous, so he has been reliant on powered mobility for some time. He is a very talented photographer and is currently studying this to degree level at the University of Plymouth. After a long wait for his chair, he was delighted to finally be able to follow up with ALF Trustee Steve Fraser and wrote: “I cannot thank the charity enough for this fantastic chair, I love my photography however, I have always been restricted as to where I can and cannot go. But this new chair has opened a whole new chapter in my life, enabling me to go off road across Dartmoor or to go on the beach which I haven’t done for over 27 years to get my photos.”

He went on to kindly say: “Without a charity like the Aaron Lewis Foundation I would never have been able to get this chair in a million years, it is an awesome bit of kit and as you can see by the mud splatters I have already been off road with it.”

As always, our thanks go out to all those generous and caring people who make it possible for us to keep doing such incredible life changing things in Aaron’s memory – especially in this case by enabling a veteran to access Dartmoor where Aaron spent a good deal of time on Commando training.
