Following a referral from another Essex-based charity, the ALF is delighted to have played a small part in the ongoing wellbeing and safety of a local teenager who is living with a progressive life limiting neurological condition.
Due to the very rare nature and complexity of the condition, her only support comes from routine physiotherapy and supervised exercise alongside more specialist (privately funded) neurological physiotherapy. The latter had been (until recently) funded by a national charity, but this support is about to come to an end.
With ALF funding in place, her mother kindly contacted the Trustees to say: ‘We are so thankful to the Aaron Lewis Foundation for contributing towards a block of specialist neuro-physio sessions for our daughter, who lives with Friedreich’s ataxia. With only three hours of physio and an independent programme provided by the local authority, we continue to battle for more support, so this contribution has made a huge difference. The [private] sessions are helping her to manage her mobility and balance, while also giving her the confidence and motivation to keep working towards her goals. This extra help has been invaluable, and we are truly grateful for the difference it has made.’
As always, the Trustees recognise that this important work is only made possible by the generosity of ALF supporters to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude.
