Life Changing Collaboration

The ALF is honoured to have played a part in the creation of an accessible garden for a former Royal Marine in Sussex.

James was severely injured during a training exercise in 2011 which left him wheelchair bound and requiring 24/7 care. He became a member of Blesma in 2020 and it was his Regional Support Officer, Pat Donnachie, who headed up the project to convert the garden into a safe and accessible space. After working with medical advisors, garden designers and James himself, Pat contacted a number of other service and veteran facing charities for support to deliver the £20,000 project. In addition to the ALF contribution, he also managed to secure funds from Blesma, The Royal Marines Charity (RMA) and The Royal Navy Benevolent Trust (RNBT).

A fabulous outcome and a wonderful way to herald the start of 2026 and all that we hope to do in Aaron’s name.
