Following a lengthy delay due to Covid 19, the Trustees and representatives of 29 Commando Regiment finally managed to get to Plymouth on 14 May to attend the Regiment’s 60th anniversary celebrations in the City and to officially unveil a co-funded Regimental Welfare Vehicle.
The Swift camper van and awning purchase was made possible by donations from the Nuffield Trust, the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund, the Aaron Lewis Foundation and by fundraising within the Regiment.
Available to any member of the Regiment for hire at £25/day (for insurance purposes) and the cost of any fuel used, the vehicle has already seen extensive action and was featured in the BBC 2 Documentary: Commando, Britain’s Ocean Warriors being used by a geographically separated Regimental family to get away together for a weekend in Cornwall.
The vehicle was purchased and brought into service by the outgoing Regimental Welfare Officer, Major Will Flemming, who approached the ALF early in the project to ask for support. With the help of ALF supporter Nick Frawley, the camper will have a plaque inside and out dedicated to Aaron and listing all of the vehicle sponsors.
