The ALF are delighted to announce that an injured RAF servicewoman from the Midlands now has her own highly specialist basketball wheelchair to compete in.
Sam, a former Woman’s Captain of the RAF Athletics Team, was seriously injured in competition and had to retire from sport. However, following selection for the 2025 Invictus Games, she was introduced to wheelchair basketball and suddenly found herself again. While playing she found renewed confidence because many of the issues she had faced following injury were temporarily pushed aside.
Since her Invictus introduction, she has competed for the Loughborough Lightnings and the Cardiff Met Archers and, not satisfied with focusing just on her own recovery, she is exploring the formation of a RAF wheelchair basketball team. In sending through her photos, she thanked the ALF and stated: ‘I have my first Women’s Premier League match this weekend, which I wouldn’t have been able to do without this chair.’
A great start to the year for Sam and for the ALF!
