ALF gives veterans an independence boost

TWO veterans have been given a boost to their independence with help from the Aaron Lewis Foundation.

The ALF joined with The Rifles Benevolent Fund, Just Rifles and Blesma to provide Martin, from Cornwall, with a new wheelchair.

He sent us a picture of himself post-surf earlier this year to show off the chair in action.

The charity also helped ex-RAF man Mick, who had lived an active and independent life until a serious health issue left him unable to walk or bathe without support.

His situation came to the attention of ALF trustee Steve Fraser, who visited Mick and his wife Cindy at their house in Somerset.

Steve said: “It was immediately obvious how frustrated Mick felt with the limitations he now faces and how hard it has been on his wife.

“One thing we discussed very quickly was helping with making the bathroom more accessible so he could access the shower safely and perform some basic hygiene functions like washing and shaving with less help.”

The ALF provided funding for the bathroom adaptations – on top of the family’s own input – and the impact has been instantly life-enhancing.
