The ALF has worked in collaboration with Blesma, The Limbless Veterans Charity to get a spinally injured veteran home following traumatic injury.

Wiltshire resident and former Royal Engineer Bob took up polo in later life as therapy for his service-related mental health issues. During a riding lesson in October 2024, he fell from his horse and was left paralysed and in intensive care. Initially unable to walk, through rehabilitation he has managed to regain some mobility but still has serious problems with his arms and hands.

Blesma Support Officer, Pat Donnachie led the project to adapt Bob’s home and approached the ALF Trustees with this specific element which we were unanimously happy to support.

In writing to the Trustees following installation and his successful return home, Bob kindly said: “Life is different now for me, but I can live in my own home because of the kindness of people who donate to these wonderful charities. I will be for ever grateful to you [the ALF] for getting me home and enabling me to use the whole house instead of living downstairs in a hospital bed – you have given me back my dignity.”
