The 2025 ALF 10s rugby tournament took place at Westcliff RFC on Saturday 12 July and was one of the best supported events to date. 16 teams (10 men’s and 6 ladies) took to the field along with a separate touch-rugby tournament that ran throughout the day.
Backed by live entertainment, an event village and fun activities for children, the event commenced with its traditional 1-minute silence signalled by a 25pdr gun from the Shoeburyness and South Essex Royal Artillery Association.
Ahead of the prize-giving, the Trustees were delighted to be able to present a Luton Van to St Vincent’s Community Hub in Southend and two specialised sit-skis for use by injured service personnel on activities with the Defence Recovery Adventurous Training Group.
In a closely fought competition, Team ALF triumphed in the men’s competition, the T-Birds in the ladies’, and the beer cup went to Minions from Westcliff RFC. We were honoured once again to have Marc Francois MP to hand out the prizes and to have a team from 29 Commando Regiment playing who presented a framed shirt to the Foundation. Another wonderful day celebrating Aaron’s love of rugby and honouring his legacy with the presentations to two very deserving causes.
