ALF HANDBIKE GETS NEW LEASE OF LIFE WITH WORLD RECORD HOLDER, SARAH

Article by Julia Harvey

The Aaron Lewis Foundation (ALF) is delighted to share that a hybrid (battery-assisted) handbike and wheelchair, initially purchased for Connal in 2017 and then passed on to Bethany in 2019, has been re-gifted to Sarah Piercy. Sarah is a London Marathon Wheelchair Gold Medal Winner and 2016 World Human Powered Speed Record holder.

Sarah became aware of the ALF through training sessions with fellow World Record Holder Lexi Chambers. Lexi knew that we were keen to re-gift the handbike and Sarah was the perfect recipient. In a note to the Trustees following the presentation by Barry Lewis at a recent ALF event, Sarah said “I would just like to say a very big thank you for letting me take on this handbike. I am so grateful.” A friend and cycling supporter has agreed to give the bike a full service before Sarah takes to the road with plans for some challenging off-road events in places she has never been able to reach to date.
