ALF AND LORDS GROUP FOUNDATION GIVE ABBEY “THE BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT EVER”

Article by Julia Harvey

After several months of collaboration with the family and a specialist supplier, the Aaron Lewis Foundation is thrilled to announce that Abbey, a 31-year-old from Southend-on-Sea, has received an incredible early Christmas present. Abbey has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and is also registered as blind.

Earlier this year, Barry Lewis had a conversation with Abbey’s family, which led to a discussion between the family and ALF Trustee Steve Fraser. The topic of discussion was to provide Abbey with a Maywalk, which is a stand-up supported walking frame. The Maywalk would help Abbey move and exercise while also giving her some degree of standing independence. The ALF approached Symmetrikit Postural Care to assess Abbey’s needs and prescribe a custom walker suitable for her.

In parallel, Steve made contact with the Lords Group Foundation who were keen to support our ongoing efforts locally. They consequently provided an astonishing £3,000 donation towards this case and we are extremely grateful for their collaboration.

Following delivery and fitting, Abbey’s Mum, Sam, said “The fitter came today and set up the walker. Abbey now has a new lease of life thanks to you. She loves it, thank you.” Abbey’s Dad, Adam, also called Steve during the week following delivery to express his thanks for “the best Christmas gift ever”.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude, as always, to our amazing supporters and the Lords Group Foundation for making this support possible. We are especially grateful during this difficult month, as we remember Aaron’s birthday and the 15th anniversary of his tragic death while serving in Afghanistan.
