ALF CO-FUNDS ENDURO WHEELCHAIR POWER ADD ON FOR FORMER AIRBORNE GUNNER

Article by Natalie Law

The Aaron Lewis Foundation has worked again alongside Blesma to come together and fund a powered wheelchair add-on for Plymouth based former Royal Artillery soldier, Rich Rochester.

Rich, who suffers from service-related spinal and lower limb injuries, has always maintained his fitness levels but is now finding that long-term wheelchair and crutch use is having a detrimental impact on his upper body joints, so he approached ALF Trustee Steve Fraser for support.

After receiving the device from Unique Mobility in Plymouth, Rich followed up with Steve after his first run out:

“Thanks to the foundation for the assistance in getting a power assist for my day chair. Having spent many a time waiting for the family at the top of a hill for their return I can now join them on their walks. The prospect of having my elbows replaced and not wanting that at this time in my life, you have stepped in and helped me to be able to do the normal things that family’s do. Living in Devon its 50% downhill and 50% uphill so this will make getting around far easier.”
