ALF and FACT collaborate to provide sailing boat

Article by Ryan Brown

After reading an article in a yachting magazine about an Essex based charitable trust called Fellowship Afloat (FACT), the ALF Trustees approached them to see if there was a project they were working on that might benefit from investment.

After some consideration, FACT asked if ALF would help with the purchase of a Drascombe Longboat; a very stable, open topped sailing boat that is well suited for use by people with disabilities, restricted movement or who are scared of being on the water.

After a major fundraising effort within FACT including a legacy donation, the two charities were able to come together to meet the boat purchase costs. The FACT trustees very graciously agreed to name the boat ‘Aaron Lewis’ at an informal ceremony that took place at Tollesbury in Essex on 2 May 2015. We are very grateful to all of our supporters who made this collaboration possible.
