The ALF Funds Football Kit for Homeless Veterans at The Beacon

Article by Julia Harvey

The Aaron Lewis Foundation is proud to share photos of The Beacon football team’s first-ever match against Hardwick House. Aiden Dephley, a Specialist Support Worker at The Beacon, saw an ALF advert in the Royal Artillery (Gunner) magazine and contacted ALF Trustee Steve Fraser to discuss their role and needs.

The Beacon, based in Catterick Garrison, provides safe accommodation and a support program for single veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, including various sporting and wellbeing activities.

A football league has been recently established in conjunction with other centers, and teams have been created. However, The Beacon players lacked a unifying strip or equipment. The ALF Trustees were happy to provide funding for this in time for the first match.

The Trustees will visit The Beacon on 29 August during the Lexi Chambers World Record event. More exciting news regarding ALF support for their vital work is expected soon. In the meantime, we wish The Beacon team the best of luck in their upcoming matches.
