THE Aaron Lewis Foundation was recently presented with a cheque for £600 by a local group of Masons.

Austin Latham, charity steward for the Albert Lucking Lodge that meets at Saxon Hall, in Southend, was asked earlier this year if the group could raise money for the ALF.

He said: “About a week later, another member asked if we could raise money for Andy Bracey – a serving solder who ended up paralysed by a motorcycle accident while on leave.

“I am an ex-soldier, so these two good causes pulled at the heart strings and I had to pull out all the stops to help.”

Austin contacted charity steward from other lodges nearby and organised a fundraising meal including raffles at Zen City Chinese restaurant in Westcliff.

He added: “In total, we had 106 attend and all had a fantastic evening. We raised an incredible £1,200 with the money split equally between the Aaron Lewis Foundation and Andy Bracey.

“I have since heard that the ALF will be helping Andy with his continuing health problems which is a superb outcome.”
