Richard Purkis to run Brentwood Half Marathon for ALF

Article by Ryan Brown

A dad of one is preparing to run the Brentwood half-marathon later this month to raise money for the Aaron Lewis Foundation.

Richard Purkis, 32, has completed the race several times previously, but this is his first on behalf of the charity.

He also has a connection to the Lewis family, with Aaron being the cousin of his sister-in-law’s husband.

Richard added: “I remember Aaron’s funeral was not that long after my now-wife Carol and I started our relationship, in late 2008.

“I got to know his parents Barry and Helen a little the following year. I’m not in touch with them now, but I am amazed by the positive legacy they have created in Aaron’s memory.

“I saw a chap running the Brentwood race for the ALF last year and I thought it was about time I did the same. I feel that I have a particular connection to this family, so I want to try and help.”

Richard is originally from Walton-on-Thames in Surrey, but now lives in Gidea Park, Essex, with wife Carol and 21-month-old daughter Sophie. He will be competing in the half-marathon on Sunday, March 19.

He has already raised more than £200 and you can sponsor him at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Richard-Purkis1
