Thank you to the Western Front Association

Article by Ryan Brown

The Aaron Lewis Foundation has this month received a donation of more than £1,300 raised by members of the Western Front Association’s Southend branch over the past year.

The group meets on the third Monday of each month for guest speakers and discussions on the First World War, with proceeds from a raffle at each session going to its annual charity.

A spokesman said: “It was with great pleasure that the members were able to support the Aaron Lewis Foundation this year.”
ALF trustee Helen Lewis collected a cheque for £1,328.30 from WFA Southend’s chairwoman Lesley Isles and former chairman John Baker at the group’s Christmas gathering.

She said: “We are so grateful to each and every member of the Association who contributed to this wonderful donation. We will ensure it is put to good use.”

The Western Front Association was formed in 1980 to maintain interest in the First World War. It has branches across the UK and works to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all, from all sides, on all Fronts. The WFA is non-political and does not seek to glorify war.

The Southend branch meets at the Royal Naval Association in East Street.
